About The Artist

Paula Charter is a contemporary abstract artist based in Kelowna, BC, working primarily in acrylic and mixed media. Her tactile, process driven practice draws on themes of pace, presence, and emotional reconnection in a world consumed by speed and technology. Before pursuing art full‑time, Paula built a career in human resources while maintaining an art practice and completing a variety of art courses on the side.  Her corporate experience informs her exploration of vulnerability and authenticity through painting and installation.

Since 2023 she has exhibited in juried group shows across the Okanagan and in Vancouver, and recently completed a ten‑month self‑directed residency at Studio 111 through the Alternator Centre for Contemporary Art. She is an exhibiting member of The Federation of Canadian Artists. Her current projects continue to merge painting, material experimentation, and sound to examine how abstraction can express feeling without language.

About The Work

Paula is a contemporary abstract artist whose practice in acrylic and mixed media explores the emotional undercurrents of a society increasingly driven by speed, efficiency, and technological advancement.  Her work emerges as a response to the relentless pace of modern life - a pace that often prioritizes productivity over presence and mechanization over meaningful connection.  Through expressive gesture and intuitive mark making, Paula seeks to reclaim moments of vulnerability, presence and human feeling.  Her compositions invite viewers to pause, reflect and reconnect with the subtle, often overlooked experiences that remind us of our shared humanity.

"My art is inspired by life’s small moments.  My soulful impressions of these experiences invite others to pause and reconnect with what it is to be human ."
